Confessions of an Overweight Mother...

There are some things that I shouldn't publicize. There are some things that should be kept between the four walls of our home.
Then, there are some things that just eat you up inside, and you can't wait to share them.

THIS is one of those things!

I'm a closet eater!

I. admit. it. I eat a lot! Sugar? Check. Carbs? Check. Cheese? Check. More sugar? Check, check!

Why do I eat? Is it to comfort myself? Is it to fight depression? Nope. I eat because I like the taste of food. I eat because food is SO satisfying. I eat...because I'm bored.

What? Bored? You have 3 children, a husband, and a home, and you are b-o-r-e-d?
I'm such a busy body. I hate to sit around. I hate having nothing to do.
Well, guess what? When your children are asleep, your house is spotless, and you have nothing left to do...you EAT! (Previously, we obviously did other things besides eating - hence our 3 children - but we are apparently getting old.)

I eat at 9:00 when Jilian is having her last bottle. My poor little girl - I can't let her eat ALONE! I eat at 7:00 when she is having her first bottle of the day. I eat while the 2 kids are sleeping. Oh, and let us NOT forget about breakfast, lunch, snack time (Jaydon can't eat alone - duh!) and dinner time.
I EAT ALL DAY LONG!

I am 5 pounds less than I was when I first got pregnant. Sounds GREAT, right?
Well, that doesn't include the 25 pounds that I gained because I got lazy when I first got married.

So what is a girl to do?

1. I vow to start chewing gum more often.
2. I vow to brush my teeth twelve times a day so that nothing tastes good.
3. I vow to do floor exercises, tummy exercises, and lift cans of beans for arm exercises in order to avoid boredom.
4. I vow not to buy six candy bars at the grocery store JUST because they were on sale for $.50 each. ...oh God...and then eat TWO of them in one sitting!
5. I vow to continue cooking like I have been for two weeks so we don't have to eat off the dollar menu everywhere we go...because that's ALL we can afford. (Do I REALLY want to know WHY the things we order only cost a dollar? They CANNOT be good for you!)
6. I vow to start walking in the evenings since daylight saving just occurred. OKAY - I vow to start walking because it's good for me.
7. I vow to be in tip-top shape by the end of May so that I can enjoy the water parks with my children this summer.
8. I vow not to go through anymore drive-thru's because my son says, "Mom - PRETTY please - come on mom!" ...and then order something for myself.
9. I vow to lose weight because I want to avoid heart disease and live to see my great-grandchildren.
10. I vow NOT to abide by the lazy person's motto which states: "I'll start tomorrow. Ask me again tomorrow, and I'll tell you the same thing!"
I WILL start today!

What are some of your confessions?
...and what will YOU do to fix those things?

~ Jessica

Funny you should mention this. I too was a closet eater. I would eat on the way home from work (fast food) so Mike wouldn't find out. I have since reformed. I joined WW and am down 55 lbs!! But you know what's so sad? I still have 30 lbs to go!! It's embarrassing to admit how much I actually weighed. So now I try to exercise and eat healthy. My portions were so out of control. I don't eat off the kids plates anymore and I eat a ton of veggies and fruit. However, I also have the problem of night eating. The kids are in bed by 8:00 PM and I usually have 1 to 2 hours to myself. So I start looking for snacks. What I do is just snack on fruit or popcorn. It helps. Also, I've been trying to catch up on housework.

Good confession. I am not so much a closet eater, as I am just an eater, and I don't care who sees it. I just eat because I love eating!!! I keep making promises to myself...but never seem to keep them. I will do better Jessica, I promise!!!

I think we all have this problem. I constantly eat when I am bored which is all the time right now. The good news for me is that I work in a 100 degree warehouse during the summer and walk about 12miles a day around that orange box. LOL.. J :)
